Bloodstock 2010
Posted in General
This past weekend has been a busy and fantastic one, because we went to Bloodstock in Derbyshire. We tried to go last year, and spent just over 2 hours there – we ended up watching one band, then had to come home because Freyja was too young to be left. She was only 3 months old, and I understand she needed me. This year, we thought we’d try again – Freyja’s 16 months old and much more independent, so we thought we’d give it a go. We were also going one step further this year, and trying the whole camping thing – which meant not going back of an evening to be with Freyja. Mum didn’t like the idea – she thought Freyja may still be a bit too young to cope without us for a whole weekend, but if all else failed, we could always jump in the car and return to her.
So, off we went on Thursday to begin our long weekend of heavy metal shenanigans. I kept a close eye on my phone, and text my mum daily to see how Freyja was and what they had been up to. Mum’s insecurities were unfounded – we didn’t return until Sunday night – Freyja had been an angel all weekend.
I was a bit apprehensive about getting her up the following morning – she had had such a lovely time with nanna, that I was expecting her to be a bit grumpy with me. But she was the opposite. It was truly wonderful – she saw me come through the door, threw herself around her cot with excitement, laughed and giggled and then gave me a 20 minute long hug. It was amazing. I cried.
The weekend was amazing, every second of it, and it was fab to have a bit of time to ourselves, knowing that Freyja was in safe hands. But nothing could compare to seeing her again on Monday morning. I had missed her so much, and I’m glad we’re back together again. We’re hoping to do it again next year now, and knowing that she’s OK without us, mum is more than happy to have her again.
Give it a couple of years, and she’ll be coming with us!
