Terminator Salvation

You can’t really beat the 1984 classic The Terminator – mainly cuz it has Arnie in it and I love a bit of Arnie. The second one was brill too, but I thought T3: Rise of the Machines was rubbish.
But then, Terminator Salvation came along, and for this sort of film, it wasn’t too bad – I quite enjoyed it actually. I wasn’t very impressed with Christian Bale as John Connor – I like him as Batman, but I don’t think he did this role any justice at all. I didn’t even think much of Sam Worthington as Marcus at the beginning – I remember saying something sarcastic, along the lines of “wow, the acting capability is immense”, but, he improved. I thought Helena Bonham Carter as Dr Kogan was good, but I think she rocks in every role I’ve seen her in. Anton Yelchin was a good addition – He plays a good Kyle Reece, although not as good as Michael Biehn in the original.
For an action sci-fi film, I thought it was pretty good. What made it was the references to the original. John Connor saying “I’ll Be Back”, and the soundtrack was awesome because that, again, was like the original (not quite – but close). The virtual Arnie was quite good too – albeit not as good as if the actual Arnie would have made an appearance.
On the whole, it wasn’t bad for another sequel to a classic film, but there was definitely room for improvement. Little tweaks and changed could have made it much much better. The CGI and special effects were ace though – the terminators were fab! Any sequel will never be able to beat the original Terminator. The genius of James Cameron wouldn’t be able to be outdone. But it was decent enough.
My Rating: 6.5/10
