An Early Christmas Visit

Posted in General (Tags: , , , , , )

I always love the holidays, because it’s a perfect time to cram in as many visits to people as possible. I’m a big lover of families, and try to visit them as much as we can throughout the year. I’m from a small family really – I only have my mum, my nan and my uncle – so it’s not exactly difficult to make time for them. Especially as they are all coming down to stay with us on Thursday for Christmas. That should be fun!

Today, we set the ball rolling by going to visit James’ grandparents in Somerset. It’s always so nice to visit them, and this time was no different. We were hoping the weather wouldn’t hinder our travelling, because we had heard news about bad snow in the South, but it wasn’t bad at all. In fact, the only problem we encountered was nearing the village our grandparents live in. An aunt and uncle had originally planned to be there too, but unfortunately, snow near them meant they couldn’t, which was a shame.

We had dinner together and Freyja played in the snow outside with her great-grandma and James. Wandering around kicking all the snow – most of it landing inside her wellies.

We also had an early Christmas, swapping presents and some were opened. Freyja had a fabulous cuddly reindeer (which I’ve seen in the shops and very nearly bought…) and our grandparents opened theirs, which I think they loved. We have saved ours until Christmas though – not sure what it is, but we were asked to save it, so we did.

We’ve just arrived home and put Freyja to bed. She’s been pretty good throughout the day, despite missing a proper nap and travelling for hours. She did have one tantrum though – a full blown wobbler which concluded in her biting me. That was lovely… She will learn one day that doing that isn’t the answer – sometimes I struggle with how to deal with it though. At home it’s fairly easy – I use a time out method if things get nasty. It’s not as easy when you’re at a home which has nowhere suitable to be used as a time out though. Ah well, she hugged me and gave me a kiss after – her apology.

I’m just getting cosy on the sofa now about to watch a movie. i have a real hankering for watching Home Alone or Die Hard. Not sure which one, if any, we’ll end up watching, but I know I’ll have a tub of Ben & Jerry’s in one hand and a malibu and coke in the other!
