Metal Mummy’s Movie Meme: Week 1
Posted in General
This is a bit of a brave move for me. I love taking part in linkys but until last week, never dreamt of doing my own… probably through the fear that no bugger but me would enter…
However, last week’s Listography gave me a kick up the bum. You see, I adore films. I could say I’m a film buff but then that would mean I’d have to have watched most films in their entirity. And, well, I’d be lying. I haven’t watched every film imaginable, but those I have watched I normally have an opinion (or 12) on…
It also appears, by the sheer number who took part in Kate’s list last week, that I’m not alone in my love of movies. So many wonderful people across our mummy blogosphere like the odd movie or two.
So, in honour of all of us cinema-goers/DVD-watchers, I’m starting a new link up. Because I can. Hopefully, people will enter…but it’ll be fun for me regardless*
*When I say it’ll be fun for me regardless, I’d probably be a bit upset if NOBODY enters, so even if it’s a completely crap idea, please humour me by entering at least once…
Metal Mummys Movie Meme will be a weekly link up. Each week, I will write a post which will include that week’s prompt. It could be a genre of film, it could be a decade, it could be an actor or actress. All YOU have to do, is write about the film that encompasses that prompt – for you. You can write whatever you want. You can interpret the prompt however you want. It’s completely up to you. You can also help yourself to the little grabby badgy thing which can be found over in my sidebar. It’s by far better than any of my other efforts, and that’s because my other half made it.
I’m hoping that by doing this, lots of us bloggers will take part, and, similarly to other weekly memes, there will be a huge sense of community. I hope that you will all enjoy writing about what films mean a lot to you, and even what films don’t. I also hope that by doing this, we will find some hidden diamonds which we could run off to Blockbuster and hire out (or at least wait until it comes on telly…)
I do hope you all enjoy it! Every week, once the prompt is live, pop back over to my blog and add your link – also take a few minutes to visit others and comment if you like what you read.
After much deliberation, I continued to struggle. So, with the help of TheBoyandMe I have decided that this weeks theme is 21st Century Films. I wanted to have a broad topic, so that it was a nice and easy introductory week. I wanted to give you guys a lovely big spectrum of films from which to choose.
You can choose any genre of film, any actor, any actress and any reason for choosing it. It can be your favourite film of the whole decade, the scariest film, the most heart-wrenching, the most thought-provoking. The theme gives us a huge scope, so I’m looking forward to lots of fab entries! (I hope!)
I’m going to choose a fairly recent film. In fact, I’m cheating a bit, because back in July 2010 I wrote about it. But, I wasn’t really properly blogging back then, so it doesn’t really count. I went to see this film with my super good friend Leila at the cinema during our one of many cinema nights out.
The film is Inception and I came out of that screening thinking WOW. It really got my cogs whirring. A lot of people I have spoken to have said it left them completely confuzzled – I can see why really, but I do love a film that makes you think. It’s a good job I was awake that day, else I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did really.
It’s by Christopher Nolan – the same guy who made Momento – another fabulous-but-if-you-miss-a-bit-it-will-confuse-the-hell-outta-you film. I seem to really enjoy the majority of films Leonardo d’Caprio stars in and Cillian Murphy is fabulous too. I thought the whole concept was completely brilliant and innovative. The cinematography and the special effects were second to none. Everyone who went anywhere near the making of this film should be proud.
My only recommendation is to PAY ATTENTION. The dream states get confusing if you don’t. If you like the Matrix and suchlike, you should like this film. I know I did.
So, get your thinking caps on. What film defines the 21st Century for you? I can’t wait to read your entries!! Just add your name and your post URL to the linky!

I shall be joining later as Im about to start work. I have to say I love the film, however I was extremely disappointed by the ending. Hubster said I need to stop thinking and just expect the fact that he is now happy. However little things, little details like the phone call he has with his children in the beginning of the film, claims that his children are more teenage like than the small children that are at the end of them film. Oooooo minds now racing again about that film.

I LOVE Inception, especially as it coincided with me studying Freud and the conscious and unconscious mind, so I was so irritating when I watched it pointing out all the Freud stuff and what it related too… husband was like ‘FFS shut up and watch the damn movie’ am at uni today so will join in tomorrow
Well done on the linky lark I imagine its a bit scary – well it would be for me

Damn me for suggesting this subject, I can’t think of one! Not just one, a whole load but not just one. Hmm.
Good choice Hannah, I understood the film but didn’t like the ambiguity of the ending.
Am off to ignore The Boy and write mine.

can I suggest one week that you do a “second film” favourite? Does that make sense? My brain is not working this morning. Such as a film from a group of films that you prefer rather than the first like SAW 2 or Godfather 2.

Ohh I’m a gonna have to think about this (whilst doing the roast). Inception would have been my pick too, though would have been lazy as I included it in my Listography for Kate Takes5.
Right… thinking cap on!
Brilliant idea – I also will join in as much as I can :) x

I must re-watch Inception without falling asleep. The loss of consciousness at a crucial moment killed it for me xx

Right I’m in! I’m trying to watch (and blog about) as many of the 56 movies with nominations for Oscars before Sunday anyway (so far done, True Grit, The Fighter, The Social Network, The King’s Speech, 127 Hours, Winter’s Bone, The Town, The Kids Are All Right, Toy Story 3, Inception, How To Train Your Dragon, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter 7a, I Am Love, Tangled, Day & Night, The Gruffalo & Tron:Legacy). I’ve already stepped out of my movie comfort zone on a few of these and it’s been fun. Stepping even further out today watching a nom for Live Action Short (Wish 143) and a nom for Documentary Feature (Restrepo) so I’ll blog about one of these and about MMMM and do the linky. Having an excuse to carry on watching and blogging about movies I might not otherwise make time to watch is going to be fun :)

Yay! More movie magic! I chose Matrix. LOVE it, love it. Really liked Inception too, although a little confusing with the dream sequences as you say. See you same time next week! :D

I love it! I’ll defo join in. Although Inception is the film I would have chosen (only because I actually came out of the film thinking I’d dreamt it up…) but I have another that has a story behind it that I’ve been wanting to tell for ages but wasn’t sure what angle I could take and now to you I do! congrats on a lush meme. I will take part as much as I can. x
