Toy Review: Zoobles

Posted in Product Reviews (Tags: , , , )

These things are strange but sickeningly cute little beasties that live in a “Happitat” and spring to life when you place them on top of their little home. Weird. Which is exactly why they will be the latest craze for little girls.

When I got asked to review these little guys, I didn’t realise (because yep, I didn’t read the info) that they were only suitable for girls 4 and up. Seeing as Freyja is only 2, they’re not that suitable for her (although I don’t know why, because the parts aren’t THAT small) BUT I have a few friends with older kids, and seeing as I’m a big kid myself, thought I’d review it anyway.

So, what are they?

They are collectibles. Cute little buggers that curl up into little balls and live in the “Happitat” homes. There’s a little magnet on top of the Happitat, which, if you sit the Zooble on it, she’ll pop up and spring to life. Press her head and her eyes will blink. See what I mean? Sickeningly cute. The Happitat also opens up, so that you can put the Zooble inside to keep the bits together. They are ideally sized to take anywhere with you, because they are small enough to fit in your pocket.

What did I think?

Well, I can see why they are set to be the latest collectible. I really can. They’re the sort of things that adults think “What the heck?” and girls say “But they are awesome, I want them all!”. At £5.99 I think they are a little overpriced. If your little girl only wanted one of them, then OK, fair enough, 6 quid is manageable. But there’s 150 of these little buggers, so if you got particularly addicted, the cost would be ridiculous. They are also sold in sets of 2 for £9.99 and you can get little play sets for £19.99. Reasonably priced IF you know when to stop buying them.

My daughter’s 3 year old friend has had this little guy now that I’ve reviewed it – she’s at a much better age to appreciate this than Freyja is. She sort of looks at it in disbelief, wondering why it doesn’t bounce very well or wondering where the crayons go.

As a collectible for girls, I can definitely see why they’ll take off. They have only recently been released in the stores and I’ve already seen a lot of good words said about them. Visit www.zoobles.com for more info.

My final verdict? Sickeningly cute. But then I would say that.

They’ll be a huge hit.
