Birthday Dilemma

Posted in General (Tags: , , , , , )

OK, it’s Freyja’s birthday coming up, and we’re having what I’d thought was going to be, a small get-together at our house like we did last year.

We have the living room, kitchen and garden to fit people in, and last year it was a success. We had about 35 people there (including children) which I thought was lovely.

This year, I was expecting the same. We plan to put up a gazebo thing, and get the BBQ up and running. I have ordered some fabulous cupcakes and have just sat down to write invitations for the kiddies. I plan to nip out to grab some party food and some party bags and have a lovely day.

Except I’ve just written a list of possible attendees and have gone past the 50 mark. With 16 kids. 16! Jesus. I’ve set myself a death wish.

What the hell do I do? I would love to have our closest family & friends there as well as our closest friends with children, but it’s Freyja’s birthday and I guess it’s her friends who should be here. Not ours. And then there’s the family members. We have mum & James’ grandparents & sister here, which will be lovely. But who else do we invite?

Oh God. I thought this would be easy.

I need a brew.

It will be Belle’s 1st birthday in a few months and I’m going to have the same problem. So we’ve decided to take a gazebo down to our local park. I’ll do a massive picnic and we’ll take some bats, balls, games etc for little ones (who am I kidding, the big ones) and have a party down there. People can come and go as they please and no mess in my house. win win :)

That’s a bloody good idea actually. Only problem with that for us is, we’re in the middle of everywhere so it may be a trek for others to get to us. Argh! A lot don’t drive so have to jump on the bus etc and the parks can be difficult to get to. Crap. Crap. x

We ended up in our church hall for Tori’s first birthday…and played loads of kids party games despite most people being 16+…

We have just had a bit of a mad few days with Jacks 2nd birthday last Thursday. On the day we just had a family tea, on Saturday we had his little friends, with their big brothers & sisters, mums & dads & a couple of our friends – 12 adults, 13 kids, and then yesterday we had a family get together, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc – 14 adults, 4 kids. It was the only was I could see to do it & it worked for us. Hard work mind but a great weekend. And I repeated the same food Saturday & Sunday to make it easier – just more wine & beer on Saturday!
I hope you have a great time & Freja has a great birthday whatever you decide to do.

sack the kids off. she won’t know and turn it into an adult party!! seriously just invite everyone-they’ll understand but stagger the times that you tell them to come?

    Eek. Good luck with that!

We just had my parents, Matts parents, My Sis and husband and Matts brother over for Freyas 2nd birthday and it was lovey. Then we all went into Chester for a meal at night and had a great time.

We had our close friends and Freyas best friend and her Mum & Dad over for her 1st one though. That was a little hectic. Thankfully there are no kids in the family yet other than Freya so makes things easier for us.

I think just do what you want to do. Kids don’t really know what’s going on at such a young age – it’s not till they get to 4 when they will properly understand the concept of a birthday party. Plus, at 1 and 2 they don’t exactly interact with eachother properly either.

    xx

Once you’ve cracked it let me know what you’re doing as we’ll have the same predicament in July (and also a new baby), I’m thinking that at 2 it won’t matter if we miss a party this year and start them up again when she’s 3. It’s so hard though, you want to have a nice time, but also not make it too much hard work. Sure whatever you decided it’ll be lovely!

I’d say as long as the parents of the 16 children are invited it will be fine be fully organised, I am doing a section on children’s parties but that’s a few weeks away haha.

For E’s 2nd birthday I had all her friends and their mum’s over in the afternoon for a few nibbles & birthday cake. Having it in the afternoon meant that all the kids had already had their lunch so I didn’t have to kill myself making party food!

On her birthday itself we went out for Sunday lunch with all the family (14 of us in total plus kids). The restaurant we went to had a private dining room which we booked. It was perfect as we could just shut the door, E could get down from the table when she got bored and everyone brought their presents with them so she could open them throughout the meal. Best thing was at the end of the meal everyone buggered off home and I didn’t have to do any entertaining!
