Metal Mummy Movie Meme: Week 5

Posted in Movie Meme (Tags: , , , , )

This week, I’ve decided to stick with a conversation I had with @BoyandMe for inspiration. Last week, whilst she was reading my movie meme post, she got mega excited because she thought it was about your favourite actor. Then, got mega disappointed when it was only about Mr DiCaprio.

So, this week, I’m going to let her write about the bloke she was planning to write about last week. This weeks prompt is:

Your Favourite Actor

It could be anyone. They could be alive. They could be dead. They could be big screen, or small screen.

Now I’ve typed what this weeks prompt is, I’m struggling. You see, there’s so many talented actors out there – How can I possible choose one?!

OK, I’m stuck.

To me, a good actor isn’t necessarily one you can swoon over. To me, a good actor is one that you can watch in ANY film and they will completely smash the role and dominate the rest of the cast. If I was to go on looks and choose an actor who can not only act, but also breaks my perv-o-meter, there’s no contest – Johnny Depp.

But on the grand scale of things, I don’t think he’s my favourite. He’s ONE of my favourites. But I think there are a couple of others out there who beat him. One for his voice (can you guess who I’m on about?) and the other because he’s been in some absolutely brilliant films – one of which has my favouritest song as it’s soundtrack.

Having narrowed down my options in my head, I’m going to choose Gary Oldman as my favourite actor. Not only is he British, but he’s been in some astounding films, from the latest Batman series to starring in the Harry Potter franchise of films as Sirius Black (personally, I don’t think any other person would have done Black justice). He’s starred in Léon, The Fifth Element and True Romance among others.

But to me, the reason why he tops my list of favourite actors is because of his performance as Dracula in the 1992 film adaptation. It was a truly haunting role and the film was absolutely beautiful. I love gothic films, and the combination of horror and romance set this film apart from others in the genre. Gary Oldman blitzed it. Completely.

Love him.

Who’s your favourite actor? It could be a tough week for you! I’m looking forward to reading your posts!

Haha, no problem. It’s a toughie one though! So much talent out there, hence why I got stuck! :)

He’s an outstanding actor!! I really can’t think of a single film he’s been in that I’ve seen and haven’t liked….I also thought he was amazing in Dracula and loved his weird portrayal of Emmanuel Jean Baptiste Zorg in The Fifth Element (which is one of my favourite films ever….)
    Great choice! x

Talking films- thoughts on The Hobbit?

    • Hannah (Tuesday 22nd March 2011 @ 08:03 am) (Reply to this)

Well, I was a bit dubious. I was mega excited when the idea of del toro was circulating because I love his work, but then he dropped out. as it is, peter Jackson is doing it, and as he smashed the lotr trilogy, I HOPE its as good. although I didn’t really like the book as much as the trilogy so I’m not expecting as much from this one.
      you?

      • James (Tuesday 22nd March 2011 @ 11:03 am) (Reply to this)

The Hobbit is an amazing book, the film best be amazing too.

      • Vickie Ford (Tuesday 22nd March 2011 @ 12:03 pm) (Reply to this)

I adore the fact that Peter is finally doing The Hobbit it only seems fair after making me fall in love the the trilogy. It’s like Star Wars if in my life time I don’t see the final 3 films being made I won’t be happy. yes I agree that Del Toro’s spin on it would have been amazing however it wouldn’t have been on the same wave length as lotr’s (we’ve always got Puss in Boots to look forward to haha)

  17. mummy@bodfortea (Tuesday 22nd March 2011 @ 11:03 pm) (Reply to this)

Oh I would have had him! So had to settle for Robert Redford :D

    • Hannah (Wednesday 23rd March 2011 @ 08:03 pm) (Reply to this)

      He’s a fab choice too! x

  18. Mari Sterling Wilbur (Wednesday 23rd March 2011 @ 12:03 am) (Reply to this)

This is a tough one, but my vote goes with Robert Redford, same as Bod for Teas. Robert Redford is not only good looking in a manly way, but he is purported to be civil with his fans and down to earth although he prefers to lead a private life. Can’t blame his after his Hollywood years. I will be re-watching his films forever!

    • Hannah (Wednesday 23rd March 2011 @ 08:03 pm) (Reply to this)

He is excellent. Although I do need to re-watch a lot of his films

  19. Tempest (Wednesday 23rd March 2011 @ 11:03 am) (Reply to this)

    Phew, done mine.

Gary Oldman is fantastic. He makes Prisoner of Azakaban – I got so annoyed with JK Rowling when I read about the Veil ;) And is brilliantly chilling as Dracula, someone you’d want as your friend as Lieutenant Gordon in the Batmans – but I love him as the drunken actor in Friends before Chandler and Monica’s wedding “enunciation is the mark of a good actor and when you enunciate you spit” :)

    • Hannah (Wednesday 23rd March 2011 @ 08:03 pm) (Reply to this)

He’s fantastic isn’t he. Defo makes Prisoner of Azkaban.

And FANTASTIC in Friends. Absolutely brilliant.

Damn I’m late – has someone stolen my Johnny yet?

    • Hannah (Wednesday 23rd March 2011 @ 08:03 pm) (Reply to this)

There has been one Johnny entry BUT he is most definitely worthy of more x
