Listography: First 5 Albums Owned
Posted in General
This is cringeworthy. I don’t like this one bit. I feel a bit ill just thinking about the God-awful music tastes I had when I was a kid.
Please, when you read down this page, please understand I was young. I didn’t understand the ways of the world. I didn’t understand that for me, the way forward was rock & metal music. I just didn’t know.
I’m sorry.
Luckily for you lot, I don’t mind embarrassing myself, so with that in mind, here are the first 5 music albums I ever owned. I don’t think I’ve missed any… If I have, I’m not telling you anyway. You’re lucky to get these 5 out of me.
My metaller street-cred is deteriorating as we speak.
By the end of it, it will be all gone.
1. Now Dance 92.
I had this on cassette. I was 8. I still remember some of the *cough* classics *cough* that were on this double-album. Tunes like the Undercover version of “Baker Street” and The Shamen’s “Ebeneezer Goode”. I know, how cool was I?!
2. Take That: Everything Changes.
Christ Almighty, I hate myself. I had a bit of an obsession with these guys. A bit of an obsession. This was their second album and was released in 1993. Love is an understatement. Well, was an understatement.
In fact, Take That were the first ever concert I went to. My mum took me when I was 9. I know, how cool am I?! What’s that? Not at all?
Oh. Ok.
Anyway, I loved this band so much that the next album I got was…
3. Take That: Take That And Party
This was their first album, released in 1991 but I seem to have glided right past it, seeing as I was 7. But it’s OK, I went back and got it after my love of Everything Changes spurned a love for the five-some.
It wasn’t as good. I remember that. I remember playing EC to death and just pushing this one to the back of my really crap cassette collection.
I also remember having so much merchandise it was unreal. I had a duffel bag and a scarf with Mark Owen emblazoned on it.
I actually feel sick that I’m telling you this.
Why don’t I shut up? People read this dagnammit.
4. Erasure: I Say I Say I say.
Oh God, I can’t believe I just admitted to that. It was 1994, and I loved Erasure. My mum bought it for me for Christmas and I loved it. Loved it.
Is it bad that I still know a lot of the songs, and have “Always” running through my head as I write this?
Yes. I thought so.
5. Now 29.
This was also released in 1994 and I remember a lot of the track listings. I specifically remember loving The Real McCoy, “Another Night” and now, have THAT running through my head. I’m just so cool. This compilation also had choons such as The Cranberries “Zombie” (love this song) and “Around the World” by one of my favourite boy bands of the time, East 17 – I think it was because they were bad-asses…
A step up from Take That I reckon.
This was the very first album I owned on CD.
Can I just say that the next album I got, which only just missed this listography, was the Offspring: Smash? I’m just trying to redeem myself here…
Please bear this is in mind. Thank you.

Smiling from ear to ear reading this. I can just imagine you squirming in your seat whilst going the colour of a strawberry. Excellent.

Oh poor you, having to put two Take That albums in. Although joking aside they have become a backdrop to a lot of 30something lives, mine included.
I loved the Cranberries, what a great blast from the past.

See it wasn’t that bad and we will let you off for being a TT fan you are from the home of Robbie after all. Don’t quite know what the dance CD is all about though????

haha you know I’d like to think Hole – Pretty on the Inside, Nirvana – Bleach and NIN – Pretty Hate Machine are in mine, but I suspect it would be full of Kylie and New Kids on the Block (which in turn makes me suspect I’m older than you!!!)
