Metal Mummy’s Movie Meme: Week 7
Posted in Movie Meme
Sorry this week’s one is slightly later than I usually do it – yesterday was a bit of a crappy day and I had to work last night so all I wanted to do at 1am was sleep.
Anyway, here it is.
Last week was a record breaker for the meme – 29 people took part, which is absolutely amazing! Who’d have thought a theme like “chick flicks” would bring so many people together? I know, I don’t get it…
Anyway, this week I’m sticking to a theme that I reckon a number of you will quite enjoy. It’s quite a broad subject, but it should give you all a chance to write about a film you love.
This weeks prompt is The 80s
What’s your favourite film from this decade? Is it a comedy? A Brat-Pack? A horror? You can write about whatever film you want, no matter the genre.
Although I’m extremely spoilt for choice because 80s films are some of my favourites, my favourite film from the 80s would have to be The Lost Boys.
If you know me, I have a thing for vampires anyway. Not these sparkly twinkly ones that only drink artificial blood. None of that crap. I like the vampires of yesteryear. The ones that actually kill people and feed on their life essence. You know, them vampires. The cool ones.
The 1987 film, the Lost Boys, has to be, for me, the eiptome of an awesome vampire movie. To be honest, there are so many brilliant vampire films out there that reflect what a vampire should be, but this one tops it.
Directed by Joel Schumacker (Batman Forever, 8mm, The Phantom of the Opera) and starring some 80s iconic actors such as Keifer Sutherland, Alex Winter, Corey Feldman and Corey Haim, The Lost Boys is set in California and is based around 2 brothers who have recently moved there, only to be confronted with a gang of vampires.
This film has become part of our pop culture – definitely one of the most remembered films of the 80s, and one I can watch again and again. Its subtle mix of both horror, fantasy and comedy makes it an all-round brilliant film. Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander as the Frog Brothers are excellent additions and in part, make the film what it is. Jason Patric and the late Corey Haim are brilliant as the boys, Michael & Sam, who move to Santa Monica – Michael with his sultry good looks and Sam who looks up to him. Barnard Hughes brings an excellent dark humour to Grandpa as well – he’s absolutely hilarious.
Oh, and Max’s dog is just beautiful.
The soundtrack is absolutely awesome, Star (Jami Gertz) is gorgeous and the vampire gang are bad-ass. And really? If Keifer Sutherland’s David happened to turn up floating outside my window, I’d let him in, hide the garlic and pour away any holy water I may have had. He’s beautiful.
“Sleep all day, Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It’s fun to be a vampire”
So, have a think about your favourite 80s movie and add it to the linky below. Who knows, we may beat last week’s record!

You already know I ADORE this film…it would have been my choice. This from the 80′s and From Dusk Till Dawn from the 90′s – both superb vampire films, not like this Twilight twaddle.

Never seen it! I didn’t realise it was a Vampire flick! Might have to try it!
I think I’ll have to skip this week, I don’t think I know any 80s films!

Do you know The Lost Boys is yet another of the movies that I’ve seen plenty of clips of but have never seen the whole thing…I might have to get down to our local Goodwill store and get a copy – I bet my eldest would love it (we both go to see Twilight movies but only because we like to watch them sarcastically, we sit on the back row and have an ‘eat a chocolate every time someone sighs’ game).

This would have been my entry but I am away this week and cannot really post. I am so glad to see that you have chosen this film. It is an absolute classic. I love it so much. The Coreys!! Actually, whilst typing this I have just thought of another film, two films that I loved, so I am off to break my holiday rule and post!! What a great theme. Need to buy some 80s movies on DVD X X X

How I love the Lost Boys, adore everything about that film. In keeping with our mother and daughter blogging experience I have gone for a 1980s kids film

One of my favourites.
Kiefer Sutherland in the Lost Boys. Bad boy sexy. My exception to the ‘no blondes’ rule :)
