We tried to go last year, and spent just over 2 hours there – we ended up watching one band, then had to come home because Freyja was too young to be left. She was only 3 months old, and I understand she needed me. This year, we thought we’d try again – Freyja’s 16 months old and much more independent, so we thought we’d give it a go. We were also going one step further this year, and trying the whole camping thing – which meant not going back of an evening to be with Freyja. Mum didn’t like the idea – she thought Freyja may still be a bit too young to cope without us for a whole weekend, but if all else failed, we could always jump in the car and return to her.

So, off we went on Thursday to begin our long weekend of heavy metal shenanigans. I kept a close eye on my phone, and text my mum daily to see how Freyja was and what they had been up to. Mum’s insecurities were unfounded – we didn’t return until Sunday night – Freyja had been an angel all weekend.

I was a bit apprehensive about getting her up the following morning – she had had such a lovely time with nanna, that I was expecting her to be a bit grumpy with me. But she was the opposite. It was truly wonderful – she saw me come through the door, threw herself around her cot with excitement, laughed and giggled and then gave me a 20 minute long hug. It was amazing. I cried.

The weekend was amazing, every second of it, and it was fab to have a bit of time to ourselves, knowing that Freyja was in safe hands. But nothing could compare to seeing her again on Monday morning. I had missed her so much, and I’m glad we’re back together again. We’re hoping to do it again next year now, and knowing that she’s OK without us, mum is more than happy to have her again.

Give it a couple of years, and she’ll be coming with us!

I am truly shattered this morning. Last night, we had a few friends over, nommed some pizza, and played a couple of board games. Before we knew it, it was 2am! And I had to be up at 7:30am!

Gah! Not done that for a while on a school night!

On the plus side, Freyja was good and only did a bit of whinging early this morning, and she slept through the noise OK.

I feel it for James today though – he has to do a few more hours at work before he can come home and sleep

In other news, Freyja’s good buddy Gracie-May is walking She came to visit yesterday with her mummy, and her and Freyja are looking like real good friends – they kept hugging eachother! It was so cute!

And, I’ll be contributing to another blog as of Saturday. I’ll pop a link in the blogroll doo-dah if anyone’s interested. It’s a blog called 7yummymummies, where 7 mummies, write one blog a week each. Should be fun

I know I don’t usually write about things that are competely unrelated to being a mummy, but the new Leonardo DiCaprio movie inspired me to do so.

Being able to socialise of an evening has got gradually easier over the past few months, since Freyja doesn’t need my udders anymore, and also having moved closer to humanity. My dear mate Leila and I often nip off to the cinema of a Wednesday (It’s Orange Wednesdays and therefore half price) and yesterday was no different. We, as well as a few good mates, all decided to run off to see Inception – it’s had rave reviews (bar a couple) and rates 9.3 out of 10 on IMDB (or at least it did last time I checked). We knew it would be busy – it was the first Orange Wednesday since the release of the film, and the cinema was HEAVING, to the point where, despite arriving a bit earlier in the hope of grabbing good seats, we ended up in the second row from the front with our neck at a funny angle.

It was quite a long film – all in all, including trailers, being about 3 hours. But every single second of it was awesome. A few friends of mine were a bit confused by the plot when they had gone to see it (bear in mind it’s by the same guy, Christopher Nolan, who created Momento – another film which confused some of my friends). But I don’t think it was confusing at all as long as you continue to pay attention and bear in mind there’s lots of dream states going on. All I can say is I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m by no means a movie buff, and don’t really have a clue when it comes to writing about them in an expert way, and I’m not trying to do that here. I just wanted to write about it, because it is now in my list of fave films, and I will be getting it on Blu-Ray when it’s released. Maybe Freyja will enjoy it when she grows up too.

Awesome.

So this weekend was the weekend for us to trek up to Stoke, to go to Bloodstock. The plan was to leave Freyja with my mum, whilst we gallavanted off to Catton Hall, to enjoy some metal bands, catch up with friends and have a super fab time. We wouldn’t be leaving Freyja with Nanna for too long – we weren’t camping, and we were only going for the bands we were bothered about.

We watched one band. They were very good. But that was all we watched. My mum had to phone us in the end, because my poor baby just wouldn’t settle. No amount of consoling would help her. She wouldn’t eat. Anything. Mum tried giving her milk from a bottle, from a cup, from a spoon. Everything. But nothing would suffice, because it wasn’t a boob. I guess that’s one downfall about breastfeeding – nothing else is good enough. Ah well. It was a shame we couldn’t go, but at the end of the day, Freyja comes first. And it was a lovely relaxing weekend anyway – mum loved having Freyja, and we chilled out for longer than we usually can, and I got to see some friends and family.

Remember: Next year, Freyja is coming with us. We will be investing in some ear defenders, and she will have her first taster of a metal festival at the ripe young age of 16 months.

We’ve left Freyja with my mum (Nanna) before, when we have popped out for an evening. But last night was the first time we have left her with friends. My friend Vicky is 32 weeks pregnant, so she was an ideal person to come over and babysit, (giving her some practice and some sort of insight into what she was letting herself in for…)

It was harder leaving Freyja this time though. We went to Southampton, to a much anticipated Dream Theater gig. We had been looking forward to it for months, but all the way through the gig I was just missing her enormously. It didn’t taint just how good the band were (despite pretty awful acoustics) but it did reiterate just how hard it is to leave my girl, even for a few hours. The evening also reiterated just how little energy I have. I was ready for bed before the band even came on! I saw a middle aged bloke wandering around with a cup of coffee – I mocked him at the time, seeing as he was amongst a load of boozers, but I would have murdered a brew in all fairness!

At least Freyja behaved for Vicky. She didn’t even need to call us. So well done to her!
